BOMA San Diego’s Executive Committee has been on the move this summer, attending national meetings as representatives of San Diego’s leaders in the Commercial Real Estate industry.
This time of year is always exciting as friends and family members reach educational milestones and begin new chapters in their lives. It is equally rewarding to see the role BOMA San Diego has on the career development through educational offerings to its members. Congratulations to our most recent Foundations graduates and the 2018 Jack Moshgat scholarship recipients, Alina Talbott of Providien Property Management and Maru Cham of CBRE. Your dedication to coursework and commitment to professional development not only enhances your professional abilities and prospects, but the health and strength of our entire industry.
It is incredible how much of 2018 has already ticked by. In the first four months of the year, our Association has helped host the largest commercial real estate expo in the San Diego region, offered multiple BOMI courses, lobbied on Capitol Hill, engaged our community through volunteerism and recognition of leading figures, welcomed in new professionals through Emerging Leaders lunch and learn series and networking events, held another sold-out golf tournament, and highlighted upcoming trends in commercial real estate through a property tour of converted retail space. That’s a lot to be proud of.
For approximately $10 per month, your firm is represented in Sacramento to fight against higher property taxes and 4,000 bills targeting our industry…
I wanted to provide a brief recap of the Executive Committee’s attendance at this year’s BOMA International Winter Business Meeting.
Happy New Year! I am privileged to have sworn in as 2018’s BOMA San Diego’s President along with a group of talented industry peers who believe not only is BOMA capable of enriching our own professional experiences but through which we have an opportunity to support our colleagues and advance an industry responsible for so much in our community.
It is with sadness and just a little relief that after two years I say goodbye as BOMA San Diego's President. It has been the most rewarding experience. I will be forever grateful for the friendships and professional relationships that I have developed.
There is lot’s to look forward to over the coming months and now is the time to reserve your table or your ticket for the Annual TOBY & Membership Awards Gala on November 11!
Almost 200 BOMA members and colleagues joined us at the Del Mar racetrack last week, making it the highest attended Day at the Races event to date.
Summer is here; the weather has warmed up, children are out of school, vacations are booked and, if possible, traffic on the I-5 is worse than ever! Be safe, and I hope to see you soon.
Thank you to everyone that participated in the recent BOMA San Diego Membership survey; it has been so helpful. We received a fantastic 66 responses, mainly consisting of positive feedback, as well as very informative comments and constructive suggestions. Details to follow once we have finished reviewing and analyzing all the data.
Last week was a difficult week for BOMA members that knew Ray Magnussen of Paragon Services and were shocked at his sudden and untimely passing.
Hope to see you at the February Lunch on Valentine's Day at Tom Ham's Lighthouse for an interesting program on Workspace Trends and possibly some special surprises and fun...
This year is starting out as a rather exciting one for BOMA San Diego. Local BOMA associations from across the country, and the world, will be coming to San Diego January 28-31 for the Winter Business Meeting.
What a fantastic night at the TOBY Gala and Awards last week. Congratulations to the Local TOBY winners Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Jane Green, Jason Moorehead and Corinne Aylor, and Kilroy Realty Corporation, Tracie Meade. I know how much work goes into your entry and how well managed the properties have to be to win. Good luck to you all with your entry at the Regional level.
You won’t want to miss this month’s Membership Meeting and pre-meeting Seminar at the Double Tree at Hazard Center on October 11. The seminar will give a detailed overview and analysis of the recent Emergency Preparedness Active Shooter event and the luncheon will be an informative, interactive panel discussion.
Congratulations to the Emergency & Preparedness Committee for organizing such a fantastic collaborative event last weekend. The Active Shooter Drill at Hazard Center was so realistic and was a valuable learning tool for the fire and police services.
If you didn't attend BOMA San Diego's Day at the Races, you missed out on a fantastic day! As you can see by the picture, I needed some help carrying $1m cash home! Now settle down everyone, I promise that if this were true I would remember all my BOMA friends. My winnings were actually $2.20 on a $2 bet, very exciting. I got to visit the cash office at the track where the money is counted and hold $1m in cash it was a lot of fun. Thank you to the Special Events Committee for planning such a great event.
If you haven't already registered for July's luncheon, I suggest you do so immediately. You won't want to miss it! It's at the fantastic Tom Ham's Lighthouse and members can bring a non-member Building Owner or Property Manager to attend as a guest at no charge.
Programs and Seminars organized a great lunch in May. I received a lot of positive feedback about the panel discussion together with some great improvement ideas for next time. As Property Management and Service Provider professionals, we have so much in common and it is always inspiring to see collaboration and the sharing of ideas and experiences. Thank you to everyone that "volunteered" to be on the panel.
Don't forget to register for May's lunch; Programs and Seminars are planning an informative panel discussion you won't want to miss. Looking forward to seeing you there.
