Hello BOMA San Diego Members,

As we close out the third quarter, I want to take a moment to celebrate the continued momentum and collaboration across our membership. The past few months have reminded us that our strength as a chapter comes from our members who continue to show up, learn, connect, and lead.

These last few months we have hosted some amazing events:

• Designer Purse Bingo broke all the records this year! I continue to be amazed at the sheer entertainment prowess of our powerhouse handbag sponsors. I have to give a shoutout to these incredible companies that make it possible and keep the crowd entertained: Kastle, Knight Commercial, LandCare, Professional Maintenance Systems, SavATree, ServPro of San Diego SW, and South Shore Building Services. • Our August Membership Luncheon was sustainability-focused, featuring Yuda Braun of MicroHabitats in Action. We hope to see more of our San Diego buildings embrace community gardening in creative ways and spaces! 
   
• Education held a virtual RPA course covering Real Estate Investment & Finance - it turned out to be one of our most well-attended courses of the year! Education continues to be our primary focus, and we encourage all to embrace these formalized options. While many of us learn the ropes on the job, successful completion of formalized educational offerings makes you more marketable as a professional - and that is always worth the undertaking! The next virtual RPA course is the first week of November on Leasing & Marketing for Property Managers - check out the details here! 
   
• Our Legislative Advocate, Craig Benedetto, and our Vice President, Stacy Kurko of Jay Paul Company, traveled to Sacramento to attend the California Business Properties Association’s Annual California Commercial Real Estate Summit. We were thrilled to spend a couple of hours with Assemblymember Darshana Patel, as well as meet with Senator Brian Jones and the office of Carl DeMaio. All of our conversations centered around collaborative approaches to policy making, specifically when it impacts the commercial real estate industry. For more details, please consider joining our monthly virtual Government Affairs meeting. 
   
• In September we brought back our Active Shooter Drill, an engaging collaboration with San Diego Police Department’s SWAT team and the Fire Department. Using one of our star members’ properties in Mission Valley, the Active Shooter Drill is a unique opportunity for police and fire to train together on how to respond to this type of emergency event. Thank you to great efforts from the Emergency Preparedness Committee, and Amber Molina, for coordinating this event!
   
• Our Summer Event this year was a return to Shout House Shenanigans! While there was no twerking this year - we had an absolute blast seeing Megan Horsefield live out her inner Spice Girl and watching Stacy Kurko shake it off! • Our Annual Joint Expo with BOMA, IFMA, IREM and SDBEA got a facelift this year! After spending nearly a decade at Del Mar Fairgrounds, donning full costumes and decor, we decided to go classy this year! Thanks to our amazing members at BioMed Realty, this year’s expo was hosted at the beautifully designed Center for Novel Therapeutics in La Jolla. Service Providers left the costumes at home and opted for higher-end giveaways in the high-end setting. The swag bags this year were absolutely unreal and were about the weight of a heavy newborn baby! You can check out the pictures here! We hope you’ll join us next year! 
   
• As we look ahead to the final stretch of the year, our focus returns to celebrating the achievements of all our members at our Annual Membership Awards on Saturday, November 15th. We are thrilled to showcase another Principal Member property: IQHQ’s Eve at RADD! We hope you’ll join us for a fun evening celebrating our member accomplishments!
