The annual BOMA San Diego Back-to-School Drive is back beginning June 10 through August 6!
This year's beneficiaries are Mountain Empire Unified School District and Bancroft Elementary School.
The schools' "Wish Lists" include items to help create calming spaces like the Classroom Calm Corners at Bancroft Elementary and provide essential classroom supplies needed by the Mountain Empire Unified School District to support a conducive and creative learning environment.
Purchase items right from the Amazon Wish List or bring them to the August Luncheon on August 6 at The Farmer & The Seahorse. A $100 gift card raffle will be held for those bringing donations to the luncheon.

What is a Classroom Calm Corner? The Calm Corner is a designated area in the classroom equipped with soft comfortable furnishings and soothing materials where students can go when they are feeling dysregulated, frustrated or overstimulated. It is a short, structured break to help students self-regulate so they can alleviate their distress and return to learning. Calm corners provide students with the opportunity to pause and re-center physically and emotionally.
There are many benefits of utilizing calming resources and spaces, including students learning mood and behavior regulation, deescalating behavior, and minimizing the amount of time students are not engaged in learning. By proving a designated space where students can take a break, practice mindfulness, or use relaxation techniques, calming corners empower students to learn how to cope with stress in a healthy way.
