May Membership Luncheon: San Diego International Airport: Inside the Expansion

BOMA San Diego invites members and industry partners to hear from Brendan Reed, Senior Director of Operational Planning & Readiness at the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, for a look inside the ongoing transformation of San Diego International Airport.

Reed will share construction updates, highlight the technologies in use, and discuss how sustainability is being prioritized throughout the project. He’ll also touch on the planning and logistics behind keeping the airport running during such a major expansion.

This development represents more than just airport growth—it’s a marker of San Diego’s continued momentum as a region. From population increases to business expansion, these shifts signal long-term demand and opportunity across commercial and residential real estate.

Why Attend:

  • Get an inside look at one of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects.
  • Understand how airport expansion reflects broader economic growth in San Diego.
  • Learn how new technologies and operational planning are reshaping large-scale construction.
  • Hear how sustainability is being integrated into every phase of the build.
  • Stay ahead of trends that impact property management, tenant activity, and regional investment.

Speaker: Brendan Reed is the Senior Director of Operational Planning & Readiness for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, which owns and operates San Diego International Airport (SAN). In this role, he is responsible for activating SAN’s $3.8 billion new Terminal 1 and its associated parking, roadway, and airfield facilities in coordination with key airport stakeholders. He also supports strategic planning and overall coordination for the Airport Authority’s Operations Division.

Previously serving as the Director of Airport Planning & Environmental Affairs, Brendan led enterprise-wide initiatives focused on sustainability, environmental compliance, and noise abatement. He played a key role in integrating sustainability principles into capital projects and guiding the Airport’s ongoing certification through the Airport Carbon Accreditation program. Brendan currently serves as Chair of the Airports Council International’s World Environment Standing Committee and is an Accredited Airport Executive through the American Association of Airport Executives. In 2020, he was recognized with a National Climate Leadership Award and an Airports Going Green Award for his contributions to sustainability in the airport industry.
