Please join us in welcoming Ryan Strzalka, one of BOMA San Diego’s newest members! Currently in business development with GuardTop, Ryan is active on the Special Events and Community Service committees.
Born and raised outside of Cleveland, Ohio, Ryan has been in the San Diego area now for about five years. He started with GuardTop at the beginning of this year. Three years ago, Ryan was lucky enough to meet his fiancé! Together they live in Mission Viejo up in Orange County and plan to get married on June 11th, 2021 in Cabo. Congrats, Ryan!
We interviewed Ryan to learn a bit more about this new member:
1. Have you always been in the asphalt protection business? If not, what industry did you start your career in?
I graduated from Youngstown State University in 2006 and took an internship with a Minor League Baseball Team in Lakewood, New Jersey. I worked there for three years and then moved back to Ohio to work for a Wine and Beer Distribution Company. I started working in the asphalt industry in 2012 as a crew member for my best friend from college’s seal coat company. That lead to a job working in SealMaster’s Corporate office in Sandusky, Ohio where I traveled around the country educating customers about the benefits of sealcoating. I moved to Southern California in 2016 to work as an Account Executive for Rose Paving, LLC and now I am with GuardTop doing business development.
2. In three words, how would your closest friends describe you?
Loyal, Passionate, Cheerful
3. What are your top three goals for joining BOMA San Diego?
To help educate property managers on the importance of asphalt maintenance and how and when it should be performed.
Network and become involved in the San Diego Market.
Assist on committees to give back to BOMA and the San Diego Market.
4. What are you passionate about in life?
I want to help keep the world’s parking lots looking their best…all kidding aside, I love my job and the work I do. I also enjoy giving back to the community. Currently I serve on the BOMA-SD, BOMA-OC, CAI-OC and CAI-SD Philanthropy Committees and have been a part of other outreach opportunities throughout my life. I cherish time with family and friends, and I love the holidays. I am a huge Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavaliers fan. I enjoy red wine, bourbon on the rocks, ice cold beer and live music.
5. Are you into books, podcasts, music, movies or television? Any recommendations?
I used to read a ton when I traveled. Anything related to WW2, True-Life Military stories, fantasy like Game of Thrones and graphic novels. I have seen so many movies it would be hard to list any favorites, but I do prefer going to the movie theater over sitting at home on Netflix or Hulu. I would recommend everyone watch Joe Lasso on Apply TV if you are looking for something that will make you want to be a better person every day. I am a huge music fan; my playlist ranges from heavy metal to country and a ton mixed in-between. My favorite band is “Red Wanting Blue”.
