BOMA San Diego is pleased to introduce and highlight Larry Figueroa, President of Cypress View Properties, for this month’s New Member Spotlight!
After spending some time in military construction, Larry was presented with the opportunity to move into the commercial real estate field. The timing was right and the rest, as they say, is history! You can read more about that history and a few of Larry’s favorite hobbies in our Q&A below.
BOMA San Diego: What was your first role and what ultimately got you interested in this field?
[Larry Figueroa] I am a licensed general contractor and we have a construction company as well. I was in military construction for some time and always had an interest in commercial real estate. Through my business partner’s law firm, I was asked to consider taking over a local San Diego family’s real estate holdings. The previous asset manager was retiring, it felt like a good match and the timing was right, which was in May of 2013. From there, we’ve added three more clients and grown our portfolio through word of mouth. We don’t market ourselves; we are a boutique firm and want to keep it that way. We do things the right way and the clients that we serve agree and support the proper care and maintenance of their investments.
BOMA San Diego: What are your top three goals in joining BOMA San Diego?
[Larry Figueroa] I wanted to get to know other people that do similar things that I do. As a small, boutique firm, we don’t have much interaction with our industry and I thought this would be a good way to meet others in the field. The other reason was to find more resources to stay up-to-date on the industry and the ever-changing laws that affect us.
BOMA San Diego: What is your favorite part of the workday?
[Larry Figueroa] Getting things done! In our work there are so many things that take time to complete, so when something is finally “done” it’s rewarding.
BOMA San Diego: What is the last show you watched and would recommend?
[Larry Figueroa] “Shameless.” I am a little embarrassed to admit this.
BOMA San Diego: What is a hobby you do outside of work?
[Larry Figueroa] Surfing and paddle boarding, running, working out and going to my youngest daughter’s never-ending softball tournaments. (I will miss these when she goes to college).
We are so glad you could join us Larry!
