New Member Spotlight – Pearl Lai

Pearl Lai grew up in Los Angeles with her three sisters. She moved to San Diego and attended the University of San Diego, where she graduated with a bachelor of business administration (BBA) degree in international business last year.
Pearl works as an analyst at Innovative Industrial Properties (IIP). IIP manages properties that are focused on specialized industrial real estate assets for the regulated medical-use cannabis industry. She works primarily in asset management and marketing, which involves interacting with tenants on a daily basis and managing the company’s social media presence. BOMA San Diego: What was your first role in property management and what got you interested in this field?
Pearl: My first and current role is with IIP. I was interested in the field because it was my first step into any real estate role and I was eager to learn about the industry. This is my first job out of college and I am loving it!
BOMA San Diego: What are your top three goals for joining BOMA San Diego?
Pearl: My top three goals include: networking, learning more about the field, and meeting new people!
BOMA San Diego: What committees have you joined or are interested in joining?
Pearl: I am interested in the communications committee and have attended a few meetings.
BOMA San Diego: What is your favorite part of the workday?
Pearl: My favorite part of the workday is attending meetings with my managers because I am able to learn more about what they do, interact with tenants and obtain feedback on my work.
BOMA San Diego: What was the last thing you read (digitally or in print) that you would recommend?
Pearl: I recently read Michelle Obama’s book “Becoming”, which I highly recommend.
BOMA San Diego: What has been your go-to quarantine activity?
Pearl: I have been reading, catching up with old friends, and learning new things such as how to ride a skateboard!
