Meet BOMA’s newest member, Alyssa Faughn, who is currently an Assistant Property Manager with Federal Realty Investment Trust. She graduated from SDSU in 2019 and recently joined the Membership and Emerging Leaders Committee as well as the Programs and Seminars Committee! Read more about her below:

BOMA San Diego: What is your role/responsibility at Federal Realty Investment Trust?
Alyssa: I am currently an Assistant Property Manager with Federal Realty Investment Trust. My role consists of managing the day-to-day operations of our San Diego properties which includes tenant/vendor management, performing property walks and identifying property improvements to mitigate risk and enhance overall value, working directly with our building engineers and other on-site staff to execute projects, and serving as the primary contract administrator creating work orders and contracts for the entire west coast portfolio.

BOMA San Diego: What type of buildings do you manage?
Alyssa: I assist in managing two retail centers – Grossmont Center and Escondido Promenade. While they are both very different – one property is a 1M sq. ft. shopping center consisting mainly of mom-and-pop shops and the other is a staple big box retail center.  They both come with their own challenges and rewards! I love everything retail and am very grateful to have the opportunity to work every day on-site at either property.

BOMA San Diego: Tell us about your family and pets:
Alyssa: I grew up in 29 Palms as an only child, and moved to San Diego in 2015 to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate at San Diego State University. Since graduating in 2019, I have decided to stick around and now live with my boyfriend and our pup in Mira Mesa! We love how much there is to do in the area and how central it is to other parts of San Diego.

BOMA San Diego: What was your first role and what ultimately got you interested in this field?
Alyssa: My first role in Real Estate was as a Community Leasing Assistant for a Greystar community near San Diego State University, BLVD63!  Even as a child, I always had a huge interest in houses/commercial buildings and interior design, watching HGTV more than I was watching cartoons and accompanying my mom to open houses around the neighborhood just to see the homes. At the time, I didn’t even know what commercial real estate was, but seeing that SDSU had a Real Estate program was all I needed to jump head-first into what I knew I had always had an underlying passion for.

BOMA San Diego: What are your top three goals for joining BOMA San Diego?
Alyssa: My top three goals for joining BOMA are:
- Expand my network and connections in the industry.
- Further my education and expand my knowledge of commercial real estate in all aspects.
- Be involved in creating a space with opportunities for people who were in my position when I was first starting out.

BOMA San Diego: What Committees have you joined or are interested in joining?
Alyssa: As of now, I have joined the Membership & Emerging Leaders and Programs and Seminars committees. Both of these committees embody the work that initially got me interested in joining BOMA and I can’t wait to get more involved!

BOMA San Diego: What is your favorite part of the work day?
Alyssa: My favorite part of the work day is when I get to step out of the office and perform my property inspections. Especially working on-site at retail centers in beautiful SD, it is so nice and refreshing to walk around, interact with and get feedback from the tenants, and physically see everything that our team works so hard on.

BOMA San Diego: What is a TV show that you recommend?
Alyssa: The Office!! I know it’s not for everyone and I even had my doubts at first, but once you get past that, you’ll realize it is pure genius! There is truly nothing like it, and it has easily become my go-to comfort show, along with Friends, of course.

BOMA San Diego: What is a hobby you do outside of work?
Alyssa: I was recently invited to become a member of the Yelp Elite squad here in San Diego, so I love spending my free time trying new places and writing reviews for the community! I also LOVE watching football, and take football Sunday’s very seriously in my house – wings, beer, stressing about your fantasy team, the whole thing!

We loved getting to know you and cannot wait to meet you in our in-person events! Welcome to BOMA San Diego!
