Section: Leadership Spotlight

Courtney Johnson grew up in Vista and later attended CSU San Marcos where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business/Corporate Communications. She is engaged to Jordan (the owner of a local general contracting company) and often refers to him as a saint for putting up with her sarcasm. They have a 13-year-old golden retriever named Otter and a betta fish named Tsunami. In February 2021, Courtney and Jordan’s family will grow by one more as they are expecting their first child – a baby girl!

Courtney is a Business Development Manager for CCS Facility Services, a BOMA San Diego Annual Supporting Partner. Her territory encompasses all of San Diego County. In BOMA, Courtney serves as co-chair of the Programs & Seminars (P&S) committee and volunteers on the Community Service and Membership & Emerging Leaders Committees.

Read below to learn more about Courtney:

BOMA San Diego: What are your top three goals as a leader in BOMA?
Courtney: My top three goals as a leader in BOMA are:
  1. To absorb and learn as much as I can from others. There is no shortage of smart, successful and skilled members in BOMA. I am in awe of the ideas, insights, and collaboration that I see from everyone on a daily basis.
  2. One thing I always appreciated my past mentors instilling in me was empowerment. I hope that I project the same sentiment to newer (and even seasoned) members, helping them increase their confidence and further their career goals.
  3. A main goal of mine, and the P&S Committee, is to ensure the content in each program we put on is valuable, educational, motivating, novel, and even fun!

BOMA San Diego:  What strengths do you bring to your role as the P&S Chairperson?
Courtney:  I feel that I have been in this field long enough to understand the industry (to an extent) but new enough to offer some fresh takes on things. I also tend to be more on the jovial side so I like to think (and hope) I bring both humor and amusement to the mix.

BOMA San Diego:  What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Courtney:  One of my very first managers told me that he would never get mad at me for trying my best. Just by saying that, he made me want to do nothing more than my best.

BOMA San Diego: What is the biggest challenge you’ve encountered this year, and how have you worked through it?
Courtney:  Nothing. There have been no challenges… just kidding! The obvious answer is COVID-19. Taking on the role of chair for the P&S Committee just in time for a global pandemic was honestly not something I was prepared for in the least. Luckily, I have the most supportive and most creative committee that has made this trying time a little less trying and a lot more inspirational.

BOMA San Diego:  What is your favorite quote from a TV show, movie or book?
Courtney:  This is a hard one. I am the QUEEN of movie quotes, mostly comedies, but I will keep this a little more inspirational. “Hard work may not always result in success, but it will never result in regret.” – Brad Pitt, Moneyball.

BOMA San Diego:  What is one thing that can instantly make your day better?
Courtney:  Very simple, my family. Oh, and (prior to this growing girl) a margarita!

Thank you for being a BOMA leader, Courtney!
