Read the Q&A below to learn more about Thor and what motivates him to be a Leader in BOMA.
BOMA San Diego: What motivated you to join the BOMA San Diego Board of Directors?
Thor Emblem:   I feel that BOMA is very important for the commercial real estate industry and I felt that I could contribute to the direction of BOMA in a positive way.
BOMA San Diego: What are the 3 Leadership Principles that you have discovered and executed that have contributed to your success as a leader in BOMA?
Thor Emblem: A leader should...
  1. ...have a service attitude.  As BOMA leaders, we need to understand that what we do, we do for the greater good of our chapter and our industry.
  2. open-minded. Our membership is made up of people with a wide variety of backgrounds and needs.  When chairing a committee, it is important that we are open to hearing an assortment of opinions and ideas. This will ensure that we are best serving all of our membership.
  3. ...know themselves and seek opportunities for improvement.
BOMA San Diego: Name one characteristic that you believe is your strongest leadership trait, and how that strength helped you in your BOMA career, and your career at GSH Group.

Thor Emblem: Being a leader requires strong emotional intelligence and a love for people.  If you love people, you will maintain a foundation of character and integrity and build your relationships based on trust. We’ve heard people say that they treat everyone the same, from the porter to the CEO.  This is a great attitude to have and this approach has helped me to be successful in BOMA and my company.

Thank you for your leadership, Thor!
