Board of Directors Debrief: Thor Emblem, ABM Industries
Q: How long have you been a member of BOMA San Diego?
A: Since 2009
Q: Why did you decide to join BOMA San Diego?
A: To meet new and interesting people.
Q: How has BOMA San Diego helped you personally in your career?
A: It has helped me to be a better businessperson/manager. When assuming a leadership role in BOMA, you have to consider the input of a variety of people, from all experience levels and different corporate cultures and backgrounds. And as a committee chair, you have to learn to motivate and inspire people that are volunteering their time. Which can be tricky but rewarding. This has made me a better manager in my own business because it made me more open to hearing input from all employees and it has taught me new ways to motivate my own employees.
Q: How has BOMA San Diego helped your ownership, building or business?
A: By interacting with and networking with real estate professionals at BOMA, I have learned more about their needs and it has made me a better service provider.
Q: What are three things you like the best about being on the BOMA San Diego Board of Directors?
A: It gives me the opportunity to interact and learn from the top professionals in our industry. 2. I get a chance to give back to an organization that I believe in. 3. It affords me the opportunity to present an associate member’s experience and point of view.
Q: What one piece of advice would you give to a new BOMA San Diego member?
A: Join a committee and enthusiastically participate. Ideally, you should join a committee whose mission aligns with your professional passions. Also, be sure to check out our excellent educational opportunities.
