Teresa Henning is originally from the Bay Area but later moved to San Diego where she finished high school and college.  She has worked in the property management industry for 33 years, starting off with a ten-year stint at the Mt. La Jolla Homeowners Association as a property administrator.  She recently celebrated her 13th anniversary at American Assets Trust where she works as a Senior Property Manager - managing assets in San Diego and Los Angeles, with the last nine years overseeing their corporate campus in the Del Mar/Carmel Valley area.

Teresa is one of BOMA San Diego’s most active principal members.  She served as the Awards and Scholarships committee chairperson for years.  Her responsibilities included overseeing the Jack Moshgat scholarship process, member awards review, and acting as the mistress of ceremonies at the Annual Membership & TOBY Awards Gala.  She also served as the past chairperson of the Emergency Preparedness & Sustainability (EP-S) committee, where she accepted the challenge of merging two committees.  In 2018, Teresa received the You’re the Greatest award for the EP-S committee and was awarded the top honor of Principal of the Year. Read below to learn more about Teresa and her take on leadership.

BOMA San Diego:  Congratulations on earning a spot on this year’s BOMA San Diego Board of Directors. What was your main reason for joining?
Teresa Henning:  It was time to give back via my industry experience and knowledge, and to be on the front line of defense in support of the many matters and issues that confront our industry.

BOMA San Diego:  What values are most important to you as a leader?
Teresa Henning:  Intelligent, calm, well-spoken and proactive leaders who focus on team building.

BOMA San Diego:  What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?
Teresa Henning:  Stepping up and out – providing guidance to the committees that I liaise, with a focus on growing new leaders.

BOMA San Diego:  How do you help a new BOMA member understand the culture of our organization?
Teresa Henning:  BOMA is about educating its members, as well as its surrounding communities. Our organization also works with first responders, as well as local and national government on the many issues that affect our industry.  We work hard, and we enjoy the camaraderie of the close relationships that we form.

BOMA San Diego:  Tell our members about your favorite hobby and if you have any hidden talents!
Teresa Henning:  I’m an artiste – painter, writer, photographer and musician/singer, but painting is my current focus.

Thank you for your leadership, Teresa!
