Meet our latest Leadership Spotlight, Stephanie Kozlowski! In June 2018, Stephanie became the current Director of Client Services & Relations for Paragon Engineering. She grew up in La Crescenta, a community located in the valley area of Los Angeles, moved to San Diego in 2005 and hasn't looked back. In junior college, Stephanie played basketball until she tore her ACL. She even made it all the way to the All-American team! Since her injury, Stephanie has worked her way through medical sales, the wedding planning world, and eventually into the residential and commercial real estate industry.

In her current role, Stephanie considers herself a translator of sorts. She has a great understanding of what a property manager’s needs are and what her operations team can provide. At the end of the day, she works hard to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Her leadership style remains similar to how she led as a team captain in basketball. “This means that I am willing to put in the same amount of work and effort that I expect from my team,” Stephanie said. “One skilled person is a threat; a team of skilled people working together is a force. In leadership, if you help push others to the top, you end up getting to the top yourself. It’s the ultimate win-win.”

Stephanie has been a BOMA leader for years and her favorite role has been chairing Programs & Seminars. “This committee has given me the opportunity to recruit up-and-coming leaders into roles of responsibility,” said Stephanie. “I love encouraging people to move into leadership roles, to step out of their comfort zones, and to take over as new leaders for our organization.” When she began chairing the committee back in 2015, she set a personal goal to win the “Associate Member of the Year” award, now known as the “Ray Magnussen Associate Member of the Year” award. That year, she earned the award at BOMA San Diego’s gala, along with Meaghan O’Brien. It was the only time the award has been shared between two associates! “We both worked our tails off for the first-ever Commercial Real Estate Expo,” said Stephanie.

She has been with her husband Kary for 23 years and has two sons, Maxim and Lincoln. Stephanie is a Pokemon GO gaming master and can proudly claim ownership of a Shundo Milotic, a shiny Jynx (pretty rare), and a shiny Giratina. One thing about her personality that surprised us was that Stephanie claims to be super shy. “I literally have challenged myself to become extroverted to overcome the deep need to hide in my car rather than network!” she joked. Her advice for BOMA emerging leaders (both principals and associates) wanting to get the most out of their BOMA experience is, “Get involved on committees that you’re interested in. Take on tasks and follow through on them. It’s the quickest way to meet people and earn respect in our organization.”

Thank you for all that you have done Stephanie! We are so lucky to have you in BOMA.
