January Luncheon Recap
On January 10th the rains parted for a brief moment and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine and views at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. The kickoff luncheon for the year included the swearing in of BOMA San Diego’s 2017 Board of Directors, as well as was BOMA’s opportunity to recognize our public official of the year. Each year, BOMA’s Government Affairs Committee selects a public official who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership on issues of relevance and critical importance to the commercial real estate industry In the San Diego region. This year the recipient was Halla Razak, the Director of Public Utilities at the City of San Diego.
Ms. Razak treated BOMA San Diego to a presentation on Pure Water San Diego. Per the City of San Diego website, “Pure Water is the City’s phased, multi-year program that will provide one-third of San Diego’s water supply locally by 2035. The Pure Water Program will use proven water purification technology to clean recycled water to produce safe, high-quality drinking water. The program offers a cost-effective investment for San Diego's water needs and will provide a reliable, sustainable water supply.”
Some amazing statistics to note from her presentation were that the population has increased 17.8% since 1994 but the water usage has decreased by 20.1%. Water usage per person since 1994 has decreased by 34%. San Diego citizens are doing something right with their water wise living style! BOMA San Diego members with their smart landscaping and irrigation upgrades at their properties must account for a good portion of that, keep up the good work!
