As building owners, managers and service providers, we face a variety challenges that test our ability to work with each other, sometimes causing stress levels to increase and clarity to be displaced in the moment.  When problematic situations arise in our industry - whether it be an emergency plumbing issue at a high rise or having to explain to a long time service provider that they are being let go as a result of changes to national corporate policy - how do property managers and service providers get through and resolve these issues?

During BOMA San Diego’s luncheon in May, a panel of experts -consisting of senior level property management professionals and service providers- came together to share their personal experiences and offer advice on how to deal with real life situations faced in commercial real estate.  The roundtable discussion, moderated by BOMA San Diego President Lynn Hulbert, touched on a variety of topics, including the importance of building relationships, keeping open communication, remembering who you work for, maintaining realistic views in emergency situations, being honest about needs and ability to deliver, being fair to and properly qualifying your vendors, and managing overall expectations of your team and clients.

The personal experiences shared by this group reinforced how building solid and respectable relationships within our community helps us towards finding solutions so we can continue on with business as usual.

Special thanks to our expert panelists for sharing their knowledge:
