Trailblazers in Commercial Real Estate: BOMA's Unforgettable March Luncheon

The BOMA March Luncheon turned out to be one of our most memorable events yet, perfectly on trend with Women's History Month. The theme, "Women in Commercial Real Estate," brought together a panel of inspiring women who shared their unique journeys into the industry—some even kicking and screaming into it!

Their personal stories resonated deeply with everyone in attendance, creating moments of tears, laughter, and curiosity among both principal and associate members. The authenticity and diversity of experiences shared by our panelists made it clear why this event sold out almost immediately after registration opened. Each story was a testament to the varied paths that lead to success in our industry, and the strength and resilience of the women who navigate it.

Some of the key topics discussed included:

  • Being intentional and aware of the people in the room: Lea Sandoval from Kilroy emphasized the importance of thinking about where you can best spend your time and what you can bring to the meeting to make a difference.
  • Rising above traumas, confrontations, and stress: Michele Scarantino from RPG shared insights on prioritizing your health to overcome challenges.
  • Recognizing your value: Angela Gomez from Endeavour CRE encouraged attendees to take on assignments in the roles they aspire to, not just those that are assigned.

We also learned the secrets from some of the industry's best on managing a work-life balance. It's no wonder the event sold out and every seat was taken. It takes grit, accountability, and seeking out mentors, allies, and having a can-do attitude. It's far too easy to give up and quit, but all these champions shared a commonality—they kept going when the going got tough.

In honor of Women's History Month, we want to acknowledge the incredible contributions of women in commercial real estate. Their stories not only inspire us but also pave the way for future generations. As the panel moderator and CEO of San Diego Magazine, Claire Johnson wisely said, "equality grows economy." Let's continue to support and uplift each other as we strive for a more inclusive and prosperous industry.
