Happy New Year! I am privileged to have sworn in as 2018’s BOMA San Diego’s President along with a group of talented industry peers who believe not only is BOMA capable of enriching our own professional experiences but through which we have an opportunity to support our colleagues and advance an industry responsible for so much in our community.

BOMA San Diego’s reputation both within our community and amongst BOMA associations throughout the country is well deserved. It is the legacy of our membership dedication and the contributions of BOMA San Diego’s leadership I most look forward to promoting in 2018.

Our Association will continue to flourish as we focus on the priorities of addressing the needs of a changing workforce through broader access to programming and enhanced messaging, highlighting and providing opportunities to develop professional skills through BOMA participation, and maintaining active engagement in real estate and community issues through vigorous advocacy. To ensure our Association continues to prosper, it requires the participation of the entire membership for the virtues and benefits of the common good is exercised by the deliberate contributions of the individual.

January’s Public Officials of the Year luncheon embodied this principle. There is no question that homelessness was the number one political and public health issue of 2017 and will continue to be going forward. While our elected officials and public apparatuses cooperated at all levels to bring to bear all they could, the breadth and scope of this challenge required a global approach. Five civic leaders representing private business and homeless services coalesced around the objective of deploying short-term solutions to help ease the impact on our community and press for long-term solutions to help stem the increasing challenge of homelessness in the City of San Diego.

As we head into 2018, I challenge myself to emulate the example of our Public Officials of the Year and tailor my efforts to be impactful for our Association and the commercial real estate industry. I welcome you to take up the challenge as well – it’s going to be a great 2018!
