September President's Message
Be sure to attend for the first ever joint trade show with BOMA San Diego and IFMA! “A Carnival of Services” promises over 90 vendor booths, great raffle prizes and vendor drawings – it is not to be missed! Being held September 15th, from 11am – 3pm, you can stay the entire time or just come for a while. Either way, it will be time well spent as you discover new service providers, get reacquainted with others, and network with lots of property managers and facility managers.
The Emergency Preparedness Committee has scheduled a FREE CPR class to any BOMA member or affiliate. If you have ever wanted to be certified or need to re-certify, please sign up on the BOMA website ASAP. The class is being offered September 25th from 8am – Noon. Thanks to our generous sponsors Securitas Security Service, Universal Protection Services and Allied Barton, for their donation of certified trainers’ time and to Bill Howe Plumbing Heating and Air for donation of their facilities to hold the class! Be sure to take advantage of this benefit offered only for BOMA members and member co-workers!
With September upon us, it is time to start thinking about the Gala coming up in November and with that comes the Membership Awards. You should have received an email from the BOMA office on August 20th requesting your vote for the following categories:
There are so many hard working volunteers that make this organization great. This is a wonderful way to recognize those folks. As a past Principal Member of the Year winner, I can tell you, it meant so much to me to be recognized by my peers for my efforts in BOMA. So let’s show our volunteers that their work is not going unnoticed! Nominate someone today!
On a related note, with the start of the fourth quarter also come interviews for next year’s Board of Directors. In 2009, Carrie Petro, who has since moved to another city, said to me, “you should check out the BOMA Board, I think you’d be good at it”. The idea of a Board interview was quite intimidating but when I entered the interview room, I discovered that I already knew everyone! Fast forward to today and looking back, I realize that being on the Board and participating in BOMA California and BOMA International has broadened my perspective. It took me out of my normal routine and gave me a much more detailed view of my daily job. I have grown to enjoy learning about the laws the various governments try to foist on us and I thrive on being able to connect with fellow property managers from around the country. If you want to deepen your appreciation for your career in commercial real estate and expand your skillset in leadership, I highly recommend submitting your letter of interest for the Board of Directors.
