September President's Message
Members of the Government Affairs Committee and I participated in a very informative breakfast with San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman in mid-August. What an incredible woman who is leading her department by example – in fitness, in integrity, and in passion for her job. She has made a positive impact on the department in her short time as police chief. The department faces many challenges, among them the sheer size of our City as well as often negative publicity overshadowing all the positive things the police department does on a daily basis.

One of the things we asked was, as building managers and service providers, what can we do to help the police department? Chief Zimmerman suggested joining a website called Nextdoor.com which is essentially an online neighborhood watch program. I was introduced to this website last year by one of my neighbors when I moved to a new area and it is great for information sharing and keeping in touch with what is going on in your neighborhood. She is working with Nextdoor.com on a commercial site that would work in much the same fashion as the residential site but in the meantime, check it out for your home! The other thing she suggested is if you see something (suspicious), say something – tell someone. In other words, we can help be the eyes and ears of the SDPD by reporting suspicious activity. As building managers and service providers, we know when something is out of place or ‘odd’ on our property and by paying attention to those things and reporting them, we can help stop crime.
San Diego is in good hands with Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman at the helm!
