San Diego’s Real Estate landscape is changing.  San Diego is the 3rd largest biotech cluster in the U.S., trailing only San Francisco and Boston.  The sales volume for San Diego lab and R&D space over the last 12 months was $3.4 billion. Life Science is expanding, and San Diego is a main top-desired destination. Tapping into our amazing colleges’ pool of talent and extraordinary climate and lifestyle, life science companies are quickly expanding in San Diego.  Last year, BOMA San Diego launched our Life Science Committee to be on the cutting edge of this trend.  We are happy to be the trailblazers and the first chapter to have a dedicated Life Science Committee in BOMA.

In September, we hosted our first seminar; a Life Science 101 class outlining the main differences between office and life science properties. Sonia Miro and Paul Draper offered their expertise, highlighting differences in: Tenant types, tenant equipment, tenant amenities and services, leasing, budgeting, the physical differences in the buildings, infrastructures, and special nuances. The turnout was great and everyone was eager to learn more!

We are continuing our educational series on March 29th to take a deeper dive into the operations and facilities of life science projects. We have secured an amazing panel of experts to present this topic featuring Ray Trent, Jon Labaw, and Shawn Whisman.

Follow along this year as we follow this growing industry.
