Summer has come and gone, but we made a splash here in San Diego with a return to in-person events! Hosted by a variety of committees and sponsored by an array of our partners, BOMA San Diego safely put on a total of 11 in-person events over the last five months, bringing hundreds of service providers, managers, and members together to kick off the summer and take us into fall.

All the events had an excitement around them, but none more than “opening night” at the Padres game. Perfectly timed by fate (and a few clever committee members), we kicked off our chapter’s first in-person event of the year at the Padres game on June 17th. It made the night ever more exciting that it was also the first night that Petco Park allowed a full stadium, making it the unofficial “opening day” of the year.

One Summer Work Party later, our July 15th Drive-In Movie event took us into the Jungle as we enjoyed popcorn, treats and socializing with fellow BOMA members through the third installment of Jumanji! Another crowd favorite was our August 5th event - The Day at the Races. Here we discovered who the real winners of BOMA San Diego were… and those who could shout the loudest! This event was followed by our August Membership Meeting (the first, in-person membership meeting of 2021), Annual Blood Drive, Membership Breakfast (meet the committees!), and Annual Property Manager Mixer. Read more about the Property Manager Mixer here. These membership meetings and events left us confident and excited for the future of BOMA, before we kicked off three incredible October events.

After postponing this big event in 2020, BOMA San Diego and partners were thrilled to host the San Diego Commercial Properties Expo at long last! Did someone say “Expo-Chella”? You know you attended this event if you commuted home with a flower headband and whole lot of vendor swag. One Sully-Jones Roofing member said of the event, “Expo-Chella was amazing, one of the best events I’ve been a part of this year!” Thanks to our partners at IFMA San Diego, IREM San Diego and SDBEA for co-hosting this event and making it FREE to all property and facility management members. One week later, our chapter hosted yet another highly-anticipated event – the BOMA San Diego Annual Golf Tournament. Highlighting numerous service providers throughout the gorgeous golf course, all the golfers embraced their inner Jedi as they chipped their way through this Star Wars themed Golf Tournament.

Our last October event launched just last week, the October Membership Meeting. Here our attention was redirected to San Diego’s homeless population and the efforts of our SDPD Homeless Outreach Team. According to one enthusiastic LaBahn’s Landscaping member, “The SDPD will not pretend to arrest you for a photo op, no matter how nicely you ask.”

We are proud of the way our chapter members worked hard to stay safe and healthy through this re-opening of San Diego. BOMA San Diego continues to be on the forefront of in-person events while maintaining local and state health guidelines. Thank you to the many sponsors who made our events possible and the committee volunteers who invested time and energy into making the summer season amazing!
