Verizon announced a partnership with Google to produce cellphones that run Google's Android operating system.

I was contacted by Jackie Greulich the career services manager at the USD  Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate about speaking on their panel at their Real Estate Society event, along with other members of IREM, CREW, NAIOP, & ULI (urban land institute). Thankfully I keep in touch with Jackie as I used work with her at Burnham Real Estate Services years ago, and she knows I’m a USD alum. On the panel, we discussed how each organization functions, the positive role that it can have in your real estate career, and the benefits of having a network of industry peers and service providers to lean on.  I used the opportunity to discuss the exciting events planned by our Emerging Leaders committee and invited students to attend these events. I will be sending invites to Jackie regarding these events moving forward so we can try to reel in student participation. I also discussed our RPA designation (touted it as the Masters in Property Mgmt) and the benefits of our educational offerings.

For me personally, I think this is a great opportunity to inform college students about careers in Property Management. Most real estate college students are laser-focused on becoming developers or brokers. Operations and management is the longest part of the real estate life cycle, and as property managers, we are responsible for the long-term viability of the asset. This is definitely something that should be promoted at the college level and BOMA should be a forefront of these discussions in order to help cultivate the next generation of real estate professionals, and BOMA leaders in our industry.
